12/25/2016 “Here!”
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. And this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, 29 “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; 30 for my eyes have seen your salvation 31 which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” 33 And his father and mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land. Then he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back, let him know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

James 5:7-12 - New International Version (NIV) 7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord comes. See how the farmer waits for the most precious fruit of the earth, being patient for it until it receives the autumn and spring rains. 8 You two must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the Lord's coming is near. 9 Do not grumble against each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. Look, the Judge stands at the door! 10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen how the Lord’s compassionately cared for him. The Lord is full of tenderness and mercy. 12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be your "Yes," and your "No," your "No," so that you do not fall under judgment.

James 4:13-17 "Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there, and trade and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance; every such boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows the good to do and does not do it, to him it is sin."

From where do wars and fights come among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure, which are at war in your members? You covet and do not have, so you murder. You are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and make war. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, to spend it on your pleasures. You adulterous people, do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks evil against a brother or judges his brother speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. One only is the lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to pass judgment on your neighbor?

My dear brothers and sisters, always be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So, get rid of all impurity and all that is evil. Carefully accept the word that God has planted in your hearts, because it has the power to save you. Do not just listen to God’s word; you must do what it says. If you don’t listen and do what it says, you are fooling yourselves. Anyone who listens to God’s word but doesn’t do what it says is like someone who looks in a mirror and then, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looked like. But the person who looks into the perfect law that sets you free and continues to obey it, not forgetting what is said but doing it—that person will be blessed in everything they do. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourselves. Your religion is worthless. The kind of religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to care for orphans and widows who are suffering, and to keep yourself from being spoiled by the world.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

8/14/2016 “It pleased God to crush him”
But who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form nor comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of My people He was stricken. And they assigned Him a grave with the wicked, but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was there any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to suffering. If He should make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge My righteous servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came and fell down before him, saying, "My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live." And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, for she said to herself, "If I only touch his garment, I will be made well." Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And instantly the woman was made well. While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the teacher any further." But Jesus, overhearing what they said, said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe." And he did not let anyone go with him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James. When he came to the house of the ruler, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. He said, "Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. And the report of this spread into all that region.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What does a temple of God have in common with idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"—he then said to the paralytic—"Arise, take up your bed and go home." And he arose and departed to his home. Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and went to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his garments, and taking a towel, girded himself about. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was girded about him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?" Jesus answered him, "What I am doing you do not now understand, but afterward you will understand." Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me." Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!" Jesus said to him, "The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is clean all over. And you are clean, but not all of you." For he knew the one who was to betray him; that is why he said, "Not all of you are clean." When he had washed their feet and put on his garments and resumed his place at the table, he said to them, "Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. When people began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, "My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; yet their days will be one hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans and they bore children to them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. The Lord saw how great wickedness on earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was evil from childhood. And the Lord was grieved that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the Lord said, "I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and, with them, the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground; for I regret that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah's family line. Noah was a righteous and blameless man among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth has become filled with violence because of them. I am determined to destroy the earth." God also said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation."

You shall eat before the Lord your God, in the place that He chooses to make His name dwell, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always. And if the way is too long for you, so that you cannot bring the tithe, or if the place is too far from you, which the Lord your God chooses to set His name there, when the Lord your God has blessed you, then you may turn it into money, and bind the money in your hand, and go to the place that the Lord your God chooses. Then you may spend the money for whatever your soul desires—for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you. And you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. And you shall not forget the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you. At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce for that year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he fathered Enoch. 19 After he fathered Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 20 Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died. 21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. 22 After he fathered Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 23 Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. 25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he fathered Lamech. 26 After he fathered Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 27 Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.
